A Study on the Reading History of King Injong in the Joseon Dynasty

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the reading history of King Injong in the Joseon Dynasty by examining the records of the Sillok (實錄). The schedules of his reading and learning at the Seoyeon(書筵) for twenty five years before he became a king was investigated in detail. Major findings are as follows:What he read during those days were 11 titles which included Sohag(小學), Daehag(大學), Noneo(論語), Maengja(孟子), Jungyong(中庸), Daehagyeonye (大學衍義), Juyeog(周易), Sibgusalyag(十九史略), Gangmog(綱目), and Songgam (宋鑑). Eighty people participated in his reading and discussion at the Seoyeon(書筵). His physical problem and internal incidents hindered his reading.
