AB - Gwonsujeonghyegyeolsamun and Gyechosimhaginmun, examined in this research, are reprint editions of Jinul(知訥)’s works published in the mid-13th century. It is worthy of notice that they were most similar to the editions of the Goryeo Dynasty out of all reprint editions in the Joseon period.
The publication of these two books at Songgwang Temple is related with the Temple's intensive effort to publish about twenty kinds of Buddhist books around 1608. It was a fruit of hard work to reconstruct Songgwang Temple after the ‘Second Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1597(丁酉再亂).’ The majority of Buddhist books published by Songgwang Temple were works of Jinul and Seosan(西山), and some books later selected as ‘Four Buddhist Texts(四集) were also included’. Gwonsujeonghyegyeolsamun described clearly that Yujeong, Buddhist Master Samyeong(四溟大師 惟政), revised its contents.
In sum, it seems that Songgwang Temple accepted Seosan and Yujeong, and invited Buhyuseonsu(浮休善修) to succeed Jinul and widely spread his thought. Needless to say, they were accepted because their thoughts were not opposed to that of Jinul. Therefore, Songgwang Temple naturally professed ‘the revival of Jinul’ by accepting the greatest Buddhist monks of the day such as Seosan, Yujeong, and Buhyu, and established a tradition emphasizing an education of Buddhist priesthood in the community of Buddhism.
