ABSTRACT

Eon-Gook Yim, a boil specialist during the mid-16th century, wrote Chijongbibang. Chijongbibangbu was published in Geumgu-hyeon, Jeolla-do in 1707. The book was based on Chijongbibang, but it was supplemented with its Korean translation and the 4 items from Chimgugoungheombang. “Bu” of the title indicates that something has been added to Chijongbibang. The C. V. Starr East Asian Library of UC Berkeley possesses this printed book, and it seems to be the only copy that has been made public. Currently, in Korea, there are two similar manuscripts, both called Chijongbang. They were found to be the transferring manuscript of Chijongbibangbu, according to the contents and the item's order. Therefore, the fact that they are similar manuscripts of the rare Chijongbibangbu makes them very valuable. Hereafter, in order to avoid confusion, it is recommended to classify the books into Chijongbibang, Chijongbibangbu, the manuscript Chijongbang, and the Chijongbang included in Uihwi.
