A Inquiry and Bibliographical Analysis of Old Books from Sung and Yuan Dynasties Existed in Korea

ABSTRACT

This study is about the editions published in the Song and Yuan dynasty and organizes overall the distinguisher standard for them that many scholars have suggested. On the basis of that, it aims to understand the current situation of the editions published in the Song and Yuan dynasty within the country, and to determine the right distinguisher and value of each book. The 1st chapter organized and synthesized the existing theories on the basis of the book design format, book binding, fiber quality, ink, style of calligraphy, cutting method, naming taboo, carving artisan, and colophon in order to present the distinguisher standard for the editions published in the Song and Yuan dynasty. The 2nd chapter determined annotated bibliography and system of its printed edition by investigating the editions published in the Song and Yuan dynasty. The result showed that there were 3 kinds in the Song printed edition and 13 kinds in the Yuan dynasty printed edition. This study examined the publication development and characteristics of the printed editions, and comparatively reconsidered the reprinted ones by investigating the documents and existing editions as well as analyzed the detail items to distinguish the book correctly. This study will furnish the primary information to politics, economy, society, Korean linguistics, medical science, and Buddhism above a bibliography or Korea-China book exchange history in the Joseon dynasty.
