AB - This study surveys the existing period of Saji and the meaning of Saji(사지) and the Government Paper Manufactory(Jojiseo-조지서) in the official system through finding out the name list of Saji, the way of getting a position of the serving period of Saji and the career history of Saji.
The term Saji first began in the middle of 15th century and existed until 16th century. It was a 6th rank official and a salaried office.
Most of them were selected by the Caste Recommendation System(음서제) and the Recommendation System of the “Hermits(유일)”. They passed the Civil Service Examination(문과) finishing duties of Saji.
The Saji consist of 6 people in each age term 35～49years, fifties and sixties to seventies fifties who were selected by the recommendation system.
Their serving period as Saji was unknown but supposdley it lasted just for a few months, but the rule defined 30 months. It is assumed that the decline of official of Saji system was caused by the short lasting time of serving.
The previous occupations of most Saji was the 6th Rank Official like a chief magistrate of a district(현감). It was 58.3%. Some were promoted directly from 9th rank of official. The post occupation of Saji was also the 6th rank of official served outside the capital and there was a case get promotion to the top official(당상관).
