Bibliographical Research on the Collection of Heo Baik-Jeong's Works

ABSTRACT

In this article, writer reviews printing process and contents on the Collection of Heo Baik-Jeong’s Works in the respect of bibliographical research. The Collection of Heo Baik-Jeong’s Works was written by Hong Guidahl(1438~1504). Hong Guidal, his nickname Heo Baik-Jeong, was a writer who had published 24 poems and 6 articles in Sok Dong Mun Sun. in the early Chosun dynasty. The Collection of Heo Baik-Jeong's Works consist of the first edition and the second edition. The first edition- original book consists of 3 volumes and 3 books, and the second edition of sequel consists of 6 volumes and 3 books. The first edition- original books, were published in 1611, 107 years after the author died and the sequels to the collection were published in 1843. Hong Ho, who was a great grandson of Hong Guial’s, kept his grandparent’s poems in his house. Choi Jungho, who was a great grandson of Hong Guidal’s daughter’s, obtained Hong Guidal’s manuscript in 1610 while he was in office as a head in Gurye, and published the first edition in 1611. The second edition--sequel to the collection included the chrolonogical listing of the author’s works and had the structure and form of the anthology. The second edition included Hong Guidal’s will, which was not included in the first edition, and poems and articles in the second edition were edited and proofreaded. The collection of Heo Baik-Jeong’s works is worth of estimating of the typical anthology in the early Chosun Dynasty, when they consider the publishing process, the publishing of second edition, the structure and compilation of the collection.
