ABSTRACT

The hand-copying sutras in Shogozo(聖語藏) of SHOSOIN(正倉院) were consisted of many Nara hand-copying sutras, which consisted of the buddhist sutras, such as Komyokogohotsuganissaikyou(光明皇后発願一切經) etc, and handed down to overseas. They were a great collection of the hand-copying sutras. One portion of them was divided into 740 items, such as Jingo-keiunninengogankyo(神護景雲二年御願經) made up by the vow of the Emperess Shotoku(称徳天皇), but there were only 4 items which have the optative sentence, the others were, by mistake, grouped into Keiunkyou(景雲經) based upon their paper and calligraphy in the modern times. It was recently revealed that most of them were in Ima-ko-ichibuissaikyo(今更一部一切經) which were copied in Hoki(寶龜) era(770-781) in accordance with the complete checkup of the corresponding relation between the record written in the back side of the end part of the hand-copying sutras and the ancient documents of SHOSOIN(正倉院文書). We are expecting the usage as the materials to study the aspect of Nara hand-copying sutras by investigating the link between the various records on them and the ancient documents of SHOSOIN or comparing with Komyokogohotsuganissaikyou.
