ABSTRACT

This article is a study that examines the process of Sonwon-kyebo-kiryak(璿源系譜紀略) Youngjo’ 7th Year Edition. The 7th Year Edition was completed on December 4, 1731 when political party strife was comparatively feeble. During the period, from 1728 to 1731, the Crown Prince, the last queen, and two of the king’s daughters, by concubine, died, and an other daughter of the king, by concubine, received a glorious name. Meanwhile, a royal tomb called Changneung(長陵) was exhumed and buried in another place. Comparing the 7th Year Edition with the 3rd Year Edition, the latter has three more items of introductory remarks(凡例) than the former. In addition, the latter has five new modified leaves and more added in the Sonwon-sekye(璿源世系) and 6th part of Sonwon-kyebo-kiryak(璿源系譜紀略) 4th volume than the former. Therefore, three wood blocks, both sides of each block used, were added. In conclusion, I was more than convinced that they reassembled The 3rd Year Editions and handed them back after changing some leaves.
