A Study about the Editions and the Illustrations of Buljungsimdharanikyung

ABSTRACT

This study dealt with the editions and its illustrations of Buljungsim-dhara nikyung (佛頂心陀羅尼經), we could know the facts as follows ; 1. Buljungsim-dharanikyung(佛頂心陀羅尼經) is mostly published by the elite or power structure in Koryo(高麗) Dynasty with the purpose of their self- protection. In the early of the Chosun(朝鮮) Dynasty, the first edition was published with the sponsor of Insoodaebi(仁粹大妃) at royal family in 1485. The rest editions of Chosun(朝鮮) were published one at the temple in various area. 2. The editions of Buljungsim-dharanikyung(佛頂心陀羅尼經) is generally divided into royal family-sponsored editionsn(王室發願本), Korean annotated ones so forth. The royal family-sponsored editions(王室發願本) is printed in 1485 and 1561 at Haetalam(解脫菴) has same series. 3. Sungwhabon(成化本) and Royal family-sponsored editionsn(王室發願本) has The arrangement, the position of the text and Illustrations has similar pattern. Also the two books has the same number of line at one page and the number of character per line. So we could estimate the publication date is in the scope of 10 years between two books. Especially, the same pattern of the record in four border of two books is the key ground that ‘edition of Tang periods(唐本)’ is the right the book of sungwha periods, so called sungwhabon(成化本). 4. The edition of Sinkwang temple(新光寺本) in 1711 has more simple pattern in the illustrations. Especially in the area of clothes, the stuff, blank space of the illustrations. It showed us that simplification of illustration is occurred during the re-engraving process likewise the same pattern in the content character.
