ABSTRACT

This study explored the distribution and aspect of civil cases through analyzing the written judgements of Hansung District Court made from 1895 to 1912, which stored in the database system(http://khd.scourt.go.kr) developed by Supreme Court Library of Korea. In this study, the structure, style, requirements and changes of the written judgements were examined, and case name, court name, ruling data were selected for statistical analysis from original images of the judgements in Guhanmal period. As a result, 6,352 written judgements were listed up by using this system. 762 keywords were extracted from case names and the keywords were classified into 10 categories including family register, land, building, ship, money, rice, substitute, security, grave, and others based on judicial statistics of 「Chosun-Chongdokbu statistics yearbook 1911」. Based on these case groups, the study analyzed the contents of the written judgements and looked into its features. The significance of this study is that it overviews the changes in the format of written judgements, as well as the dispersion and characteristics of civil cases during modern Korean history.
