A Study on the Votive Printed Books Stored in the Wooden Seated Statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva at Wonhyoam of Beomeosa

ABSTRACT

This study contemplated the bibliographic characteristic and the literary character of the votive books stored in the wooden seated statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in the Muryangsugak of Wonhyoam of Beomeosa located in Geumjeong-gu, Busan Metropolitan City. There were 10 editions buddhist books include 7 editions of Lotus-sutra, 1 edition of Seonmunyeomsong-jip, 1 edition of Yukgyeonghapbu and 1 edition of Ksitigarbha-sutra. And in engraving on wood block times, 1 edition in the Goryeo Dynasty, 6 editions in the early Joseon Dynasty and 3 editions in the late Joseon Dynasty. All of them are already known editions. The statue had been enshrined in the Yeungeunsa located in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsang-do in 1674. Also these books had been dedicated that time. According to the analysis, it is determined that there is no particular correlation between these books and the enshrinement background of the statue.
