ABSTRACT

This study conducted a comparative analysis between Junzhai-Dushuzhi(郡齋讀書志) printed by Chao Gongwu(晁公武) of the Southern Song Dynasty in 1151 and that of Zhizhai Shu lu Jieti(直齋書錄解題) compiled by Chen zhen sun(陳振孫) of the same dynasty based on the method of bibliographical description. The bibliographical descriptions were examined and compared with respect to title, volume number, author, word of authorship function, and notable examples. It showed that the bibliographic descriptions of both were similar and therefore Zhizhai Shu lu Jieti imitated Junzhai-Dushuzhi. Rather than following the method in Junzhai-Dushuzhi, however, Zhizhai Shu lu Jieti maintained the unity of its own method and employed it in a new and organized manner. In this regard, Zhizhai Shu lu Jieti provided a far more improved method of bibliographic description than Junzhai-Dushuzhi and it indicated that Zhizhai Shu lu Jieti contributed to the development of Chinese bibliography.
