ABSTRACT

This Buddhist scripture by the name of The Diamond Sutra was published by monk Cheong-ik in 1370. The Diamond Sutra is a unique form of Buddhist scripture. Also with The Diamond Sutra come together four kinds of Buddhist scriptures and two kinds of dharani. By possessing The Diamond Sutra, people used to believe they would defend themselves against calamity. Mok-Am, the compiler of The Diamond Sutra, is an intellectual monk with a literary background. He added explanatory notes at the end of each Buddhist scripture and dharani, which was a new method that had not been previously extended to any compiler. As such, Mok-Am of Goryeo Dynasty not only compiled The Diamond Sutra but also made a new Goryeo edition. In this way, I see The Diamond Sutra as the most valuable Buddhist scripture, and joining dharani shows Dharani faith of the late Goryeo Dynasty.
