A Study of Naesain Type in Joseon Dynasty

ABSTRACT

Naesain(內賜印) means a royal seal which was acknowledged for authority and public confidence of Naesabon by the king. In Joseon Dynasty, there were six kinds of naesain which have specific purposes. such as Seonsajiki(宣賜之記), Kyujangjibo(奎章之寶), Lyuseojibo(諭書之寶), Dongmunjibo(同文之寶), Heummunjibo(欽文之寶) and Naesa(內賜). Five of them has qualification for Naesain as State Seals[國璽, guksae], but one of them is not. Seonsajiki and Kyujangjibo are seals that was the most frequently used. The former is found in 72% of naesabon, and the latter is found in 23% of them. And the rest of them are very rarely found.
