The Content Analysis of Liang Qi-chao’s Xixueshumubiao

ABSTRACT

In this study, analyzed are the content of China's modern book-list Xixueshumubiao (西學書目表) which is written by Liang Qi-chao, and contains book-list about western learning. The main chapters contains 130 editions of natural science, 168 editions of social science, 54 editions of general books, so almost half of reconciliation was social science books. Medicine has accounted for most in natural science, and military science was main subject in social sciences. John Fryer (British missionary) was the most often found translater who was translating 88 editions, and “Jiangnan zhi zao ju” the most often found publisher which was translating 121 editions. the supplement has listed a total of 293 editions. In Western learning translation of before commercial treaty, Adam Schall was the most often found translater who was translating 24 editions. In not printed translation, History has accounted for most in natural science, and John Fryer was the most often found translater who was translating 38 editions, and “Jiangnan zhi zao ju” the most often found publisher which was translating 55 editions. In compiled by the Chinese about Western, Travel books are acount for 30% as 48 editions. This items have following characteristic, It has notes and circle symbol for marking must-have books. Through this study, I can see Western Learning book-lists in last days of Qing dinasty, and transitional classification system at that time.
