AB - This research deals with an aspect of distribution of Amitayurdhyana Sutra, which translated into Chinese by Kālayaśas during 424-453 in ancient China. Also it deals with bibliographic characteristic of Amitayurdhyana Sutra including illustrations by comparing Choson edition (published in Choson Dynasty) with GyeongTae edition(published in Ming Dynasty). After Amitayurdhyana translated into Chinese, the illustration of the Sutra depicting the contents of sixteen methods of contemplation appeared at stone wall of Mogao Caves in Dunhuang and then it had come into wide disseminated in a form of manuscript. Thereafter, a wood block printing had published for the first time in Song Dynasty (960-1127). Moreover, the historical evidence has been identified that illustration edition containing sixteen paintings of the paradise of Amitabha had been published at early Ming Dynasty by Sukdu temple edition-being lost to the history-published in Choson Dynasty. However, it is revealed that by using Ming Dynasty edition (published in 1451) as a original script, not only three types of edition had been published but also it had been published as various forms such as a movable type edition, annotated edition in Korean and so on in Choson Dynasty.
Ming Dynasty edition printed in 1451 known as being lost to the history contains a part of illustrations as a picture material. As an examination result, it is determined that the illustrations in picture have high possibility identical edition with printed in 1451 by examining Sukdu temple edition.
