ABSTRACT

This study conducted a comparative analysis of bibliographical elements between the two annotated catalogs, Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao and Sikuquanshujianmingmulu which was published by Ji-yun, Qianlong reign, the Qing Dynasty. The bibliographical descriptions were examined and compared with respect to title, volume number, print edition, author, word of authorship function, published date. Although the bibliographic descriptions of the Sikuquanshujianmingmulu were made based on Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao, the Sikuquanshujianmingmulu focused more on concise and clear descriptions than Sikuquanshuzongmutiyao according to the purpose of its compilation, rather than exactly following the latter. However, a few limitations existed in Sikuquanshujianmingmulu, such as typos and errors and lack of consistency in its descriptions. Nevertheless, Sikuquanshujianmingmulu was highly regarded as a valuable catalog in the history of Chinese bibliography concerning the fact that it had unity relatively in terms of its descriptions and omitted or insufficient information from Zongmutiyao were corrected and augmented in Sikuquanshujianmingmulu, and therefore, it played a role in building bridges to access Sikuquanshu and its Zongmutiyao and it was reorganized to be a practical catalog so that users could use it in an easy and convenient manner.
