AB - In this study, we compared and analyzed the newly discovered [Written in Silver on Dark-Blue Paper, Painted in Gold ‘紺紙銀字’] Lotus Sutra(妙法蓮華經) 卷6 and with the Currently housed in the National Museum of Korea Lotus Sutra 卷5(德2466), which is now stored in the National Museum of Korea.
From the source (發願文) of the written script, we have been able to confirm how close ‘Ig-an dae-gun (益安大君)’ was with ‘Tae-jong(太宗)’, at the same time, The fact that the royal family created the scriptures for peace and well-being, It can be seen that the royal court of Joseon also placed great importance on supporting the king. Furthermore, the timing of the production can be viewed as being made between 1400 and 1404, based on newly discovered data.
Although the cover art(表紙畵) is influenced by the style of Goryeo Dynasty later period, the characteristic features of the Jo-seon Dynasty can be seen where lotus leaves and stems are drawn. Moreover, the scent coming from the flower’s heart changes in a straight line, and the rigid expression begins to stand out.
In the of the paintings (變相畵), there is a characteristic of the light backs of Cho-sun beginning period (that is, they are surrounded by fire patterns, but there is no decoration in the head light) and the sign that displays the scattered flowers on the stairs of ‘Su-mi-dan(須彌壇)’, What is expressed is also the form that appears at that time.
In the style of font(書體), Basically it was affected by the ‘Gu-yang-sun font(歐陽詢體)’ and added the font of ‘Jo-maeng-bu Font (趙孟頫體)’. However, a variety of calligraphy styles are emerging.
