ABSTRACT

During the Joseon Dynasty, Bowonsa was one of many Buddhist temples in Chungcheong-do. Bowonsa published a total of 14 Buddhist documents from 1565 to 1604. In addition to Bowonsa, each member participated in the engraving of various temples. The engravers mainly worked in Chungcheong-do and also participated in the work of Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do regions. Beowonsa Temple was a temple of large scale and economic power that published many Buddhist books during the Joseon Dynasty. However, the site remains and there are no related records from the Joseon Dynasty. The remaining woodbocks are the most important data to infer the past. Therefore, efforts should be made to create a proper preservation environment for the woodblocks in the future.
