ABSTRACT

This study attempted a bibliographic analysis of Byung-gu Kim’s collection, Written in Gold on Dark-Blue Paper(紺紙金字) Flower Ornamaent Sutra(大方廣佛華嚴經) Vol.22. Recently, the New York Public Library, Vol.72 was also released online and reviewed together. As a result, the materials (Vol.1, 4, 35, 36, 42, 78) are confirmed to be identical to those currently held in the Yamato Cultural Center(大和文華館), Tokugawa Dawn Society(德川黎明會) etc in Japan. In the cover painting(表紙畵) 10 flowers were arranged, cobalt and pink-colored pigment(顔料) were used for the phases, and the same stylistic features were identified in the shape of the edge pattern, the shape of the land-cloud (地雲紋), and the shape of cover of the tower(寶蓋). Combining these features, it is estimated that the period of manufacture was in the early and mid 14th century. It is estimated that manuscript(寫經) is one of the most unique sets of Flower Ornamaent Sutra made during the Goryeo Dynasty(高麗).
