ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the JeongJo’s reading career in the Jugang(晝講) of Joseon Dynasty. To analyze rhe contenrs of the Silrog(the book which records the history of Korea) and the Seungjeongwonilgi(承政院日記), it knew the reading materials, a reading act and attitude which he read in the Crown prince time. Major findings are as the follows; The reading materials that he read in the Jugang were 5 titles, that is, Chunchujipjeon(春秋集傳), Noneo(論語), Maengja(孟子), Jungyong(中庸), Daehag(大學) etc, and the king Jeongjo read these books from the entronement year (1776) to the 24th year (1800) of Jeongjo’s reign. The number of times that he participated to the Jugang’s reading discussion was 246. He was the king who disliked reading in the Jugang from 1776 to 1800, when he was in power, moreover he was not almost presented at the reading discussion of the Jugang to the end of seizure of power. As a result, JeongJo’s reading career in the Jugang was much lower than the King’s reading career in past.
