ABSTRACT

This study analyzed and reviewed multiple documents focusing on the Jingyuequanshu’s citations on the process of acceptance and development of Jingyue’s medicine in the late Joseon Dynasty. As a result, the following facts were considered. 1) 1777 and 1780 are important for the period related to the initial acceptance of Jingyuequanshu in Joseon. 2) Since the beginning of the 19th century, Jingyuequanshu has been widely read as the liberal arts book of Intellectual class. 3) Hwangdoyeon had a great influence on Jingyuequanshu’s Joseonization. 4) Existing manuscripts from the late 19th century can be used to estimate the existence of Jingyue’s school of medicine based on the Jingyuequanshu. 5) After the Japanese occupation, Jiebin’s medicine was firmly established in Korean traditional medicine. In conclusion, since Jiebin’s medicine was first accepted at the end of the 18th century, epidemic-related contents were first cited, and its use gradually increased, making it one of the mainstream medicines during the Japanese colonial period.
