ABSTRACT

Our study is aimed at examining the historical position of France on the North African colonization caused by the law of 23 February 2005. For this it is necessary to notice clearly differences of French colonialism between World War II and European integration. Under the Vichy regime, the subject of French colonialism was French settlers from North Africa. After the Allied landings in North Africa, it was replaced by the indigenous who supported the French Committee of National Liberation. Especially, natives of Algeria coped with De Gaulle for independence. Immediately after World War II, France founded the French Union and tried to organize it into European community to maintain the position of the French colonial empire. But the war in Algeria gave the start to the collapse of the French Union. The colonial regime of France was dismantled. France was occupied by nationals and immigrants who came from North Africa. To resolve this situation, France has focused on European integration and at the same time it has established the powerful immigration law to keep out of North African immigrants in France. More European integration evolves over immigration law is strengthened for North African immigration. At this point, the subject of French colonialism in current is the colonized not in North Africa, but in France. Among their children, there are French and European citizens who have been educated in the same French culture, but do not fit into the French and European community. This trend shows that it is necessary to pay attention to the reproduction of French colonialism.
