ABSTRACT

The French Calvinist group, as known as Huguenots, was one of the most distinguished minority in French history. Huguenots were initially a religious sect, formed by Calvin’s protestant doctrine, but almost all the historians have considered them as the political faction which was constituted during the Wars of Religion in the sixteenth century. However, some specialists on Huguenots history started, under new perspectives, to examine Huguenots’ various identites which were transformed and reconstructed through their historical situations from sixteenth to eighteenth century. The purpose of this paper is to present recent research results on historical changes of Huguenots’ collective identity and to suggest new directions of Huguenots studies.
