ABSTRACT

This study examines the impacts of commute duration on commute satisfaction and quality of life using the 2022 Seoul Survey data. The results from the ordinary least squares and ordered probit regression models found that as commute duration increases, both commute satisfaction and quality of life among Seoul residents decrease. Additionally, no significant differences in commute satisfaction and quality of life were recognized based on the different modes of transportation. However, certain districts were identified where improvements in commute satisfaction are necessary. Therefore, this study implies that policy efforts should specifically focus on improving transportation in districts with lower commute satisfaction and quality of life. It also highlights the importance of considering commute duration as a critical factor when investigating the quality of life in metropolitan cities like Seoul. By exploring the close relationship between commute duration, quality of life, and commute satisfaction among Seoul residents, this study provides practical implications for prioritizing certain areas in Seoul’s transportation policies, identifying transportation modes needing improvement, and developing feasible public transportation policies.
