ABSTRACT

This study analyzes the spatial structure of hinterland consumption generated by beach visitors, conceptualizing beaches not merely as seasonal recreation spaces but as leisure and tourism hubs that mediate visitor stays and consumption. Using pseudonymized linked data that combine mobile-based stay information and credit-card transaction records, the study examines visitors to Gyeongpo, Haeundae, and Daecheon Beaches in 2024. Consumption patterns are analyzed by administrative-dong type—beach location, adjacent area, and surrounding area—using the share of transaction amounts and per-capita payment amounts, and are visualized through GIS-based choropleth maps. The results show distinct spatial structures: Gyeongpo exhibits a dispersed hinterland-oriented pattern, Haeundae an urban-linked dual-core pattern, and Daecheon a beach-core-centered pattern with limited hinterland diffusion. While seasonal opening status does not substantially alter these structures, residence and stay/lodging characteristics produce clearer differences. The findings suggest that beach policy should move beyond visitor-count management toward strategies based on stay-consumption linkages and hinterland commercial networks.
