AB - The purpose of this article is to evaluate the quality of digital libraries which Korean society has built
with. To the end, first discussed is the operational definition of digital library, which has a variety of meanings
and definitions. For the quality evaluation, 10 criteria were developed on the basis of both literature review
and user survey. Followed was a thorough investigation to identify the present status of digital library
construction. Then, we selected the most representative digital libraries in Korea, and conducted the quality
verification on the basis of previously developed 10 criteria. The conclusion includes both major causes
of low quality and some strategies for improving the low quality of digital libraries at the national level.
