ABSTRACT

As policy partners with government, business associations have played an important role for developing national industry and economy in Korea, However, it cannot be said to be enough for explaining the relationship between government and business associations. Though there were some studies on this relationship , they were usually absorbed in the theoretical framework of either interest group politics or national corporatism, with some limitations in describing the real relationship between them. With this background, this study tries to explain the diverse relationship between government and business associations based on empirical analysis. Accordingly a content analysis on the articles of 37 associations was conducted. Results indicate some diverse traits of the relationship were found in terms of with the different sub-concepts of government, the age of associations, and the business sectoral difference. These differences suggest an important factor for explaining the diverse relationship between government and business associations. Moreover, they extended to the need for diverse approaches and tools to foster better participation and cooperation with business associations.
