AB - This study investigates how the effects of work overload differ depending on individual’s attribution outcome. Analyzing the data from the Korea Institute of Public Administration, we found that although work overload negatively affects the quality of life regardless of its cause, its effects on job attitudes such as satisfaction, commitment, and citizenship behavior considerably differ depending on how individuals attributes the current job situation. Particularly interesting is the finding that positive job attitudes increases if the reason for work overload is because their workunit has a insufficient manpower. The implications for current labor policy in Korea is discussed.
