AB - This research aims to examine the needs of English language skills of Korean postgraduate engineering students in an academic community. In raising these issues, this study focuses on the perceptions of Korean engineering students themselves and subject lecturers by using semi-structured interviews. The research showed that the current global world order has strongly influenced participants' perceptions in the Korean context. Students were required to be equipped with a flexible combination and balanced competence of all language skills, which are contextualised in the discipline. Finally, this thesis discusses the implications for upgraded English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programmes adapted to the needs of Korean engineering students in the global age.
