ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine university students' satisfaction and expectations toward native English instructors. A total of 285 university students participated in this study. The students had the experience of being taught English class by native English instructors. A questionnaire with 19 items was administered to the students. The results of the study showed that students wanted the native English instructors to have a more conversation oriented class and to consider students’ proficiency level for teaching. The native English instructors were also asked to be more positive in understanding the Korean language and culture. According to the students' perspective, the lack of opportunity for oral communication between students and native English instructors was also found to be problematic in enhancing their English proficiency. Several other findings were discussed and pedagogical implications were suggested.
