ABSTRACT

This study proposes effective methods of concordance training for university students. It provides concordance materials and tools for corpus learners and instruction guidelines for corpus trainers. In spite of the importance of tool training for successful corpus investigation, there have been few studies to focus on how to train learner corpus users. The current research developed a concordance workshop in order to help undergraduate students learn concordancing. A total of 27 students participated in the training, and 22 undertook three independent corpus investigations successfully. After training, all 27 students were surveyed and interviewed, 20 of them responded that the online tools would be effective for vocabulary learning. Fourteen, in particular, responded they would be helpful to learn in-depth knowledge of a word, such as register or collocation.
