AB - In the middle of 1980, the requirements of new suggested variable trends and methodology in musicology have pointed the conquest of frame of old positivism. The strategical point of this essay is a investigation about the meaning and function of criticism in Korean musicology after more than 30 years from that time. In general, the criticism is recognised as a journalistic description on journals and newspapers. However, the criticism which requires the verbal technique in seizing, analysing and evaluating about musical phenomena can be grasped as general musicological tasks. Consequently we have to try to observe a reason and the method why we are in need of the criticism in musicology and to inspect the important matter of the function and interpretation in criticism. This will point out the significance of criticizing which contributes in being understood.
