ABSTRACT

In his “Peter Singer and the Ethical Vegetarianism”, Professor Joo-Man Maeng criticizes the argument of Peter Singer which defends the ethical vegetarianism based on the utilitarianism and sentience as the capacity to feel pleasure or pain. I examine Professor Maeng's criticism focusing on whether sentience can be a moral criterion, whether all animals can feel pain, and whether Singer's argument can be a practical guide. I conclude that his criticism cannot succeed.
