AB - What is politics? Nowadays the reality of Korean society raises serious questions on the goal and meaning of politics. After the sinking of the MV Sewol last year, we could discern the true face of ‘the state’ and ‘the political parties’ as the denotations of politics. in addition, we could confirm the limit of the representative democracy based upon the elections. This paper deals with the thought of Wang Hui, a leading intellectual of China, as a process of seeking a new alternative. Wang Hui is a scholar who leads Chinese New Leftism, also well known to Koreans. ‘Depoliticized Politics’ he suggested can be applied to many cases in Korea as well as in China. This paper will consider how politics has changed in modern society, along with the characteristics of Chinese political reformation, focus on Wang Hui’s works.
The most important character in Chinese political system and practice is the unity of the party and the government after 1990s. This is contrast to the fact that the key to the political reformation in the 1980s was the separation of the party and the government. When remembering that the representative character of the political party is completed through the political values, the governmentalization of the party means the weakening and change of the party’s value. The spread of the ideological apparatus works as another factor instigating these crises. These days, the media and advertisements have control over people’s lives and senses, and demand active obedience of the citizen. All of the situations remarkably show the ‘Depoliticized’ features, and reconstruct the political ideology of ‘Depoliticization’. In this phase, raising the question on what is the form of democracy has the significant meaning. In the conditions that the subjects of modern politics such as political parties, classes, and states are in danger of ‘Depoliticization’, the pursuit of the new political subjects is giving a definition of the realm of politics. Therefore, this paper is a discussion on the way of drawing up a plan that will reconstruct the perished political values and activate our political lives.
