ABSTRACT

This paper relates to conductive arguments, which are founded by Carl Wellman and developed by Trudy Govier. Govier analyzes and defines characteristics of the conductive arguments, and presents procedures of evaluating them. As the conductive arguments usually have counter-considerations as well as the supporting considerations, according to Govier, the suitability of reasoning critically depends upon balancing of pros and cons. It is argued that the conductive arguments take counter-considerations only as the subject of a cons-invalidation claiming premise, and the evaluation thereof should be adjusted accordingly.
