ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to conceptually analyze the aversion that has been a topic of contemporary Korean society, focusing on fear, disgust, and hatred, which is the mode of aversion proposed by A. Kolnai. I classified aversion into sensual aversion and aversion of survival in the area of sensation. In particular, survival aversion allows for primordial intervention of reason in extreme cases such as death. Fear is evident in these features. T. Hobbes and H. Jonas are philosophers who agree with this. In addition, I have presented aversion in the ideological and phenomenological realms as cultural aversion and power aversion. Disgust has spread from personal feelings to social notions. Modern moral psychologists such as J. Haidt argue that the disgust that spreads from cultural aversion plays a leading role in decision-making or moral judgment. But as long as the feeling of disgust extends to cultural aversion, the role of reason in decision-making or moral judgment is not slavery of the mind as D. Hume claims. And hatred is accompanied by anger. Hatred is usually expressed as contempt or hostility. This hatred as aversion forms a power relationship. Moral rationalization appears to justify this power aversion when it is transferred to action.
