AB - An important point in foreign language learning is for a learner to learn to communicate competently in the target language. In this paper I shall consider what is necessary for discourse management competence learning. This paper consists of two parts- (1)an overview of discourse teaching research.(2)a proposal that the use of a tool for describing a discourse structure known as tactics which is effective in promoting discourse management competence learning.
