AB - 本稿はサリンジャーの小説『キャッチャー・イン・ザ・ライ』の主人公、ホールデン特有の語彙と言葉づかいが作品に与える意味及びその効果について探り、韓国語訳と日本語訳を忠実性と可讀性の観点から比較することで、韓․日翻訳の共通点と相違点、翻訳の多義性及び翻訳の限界を考察したものである。 小説『キャッチャー・イン・ザ・ライ』の翻訳において最も注意しなければならない部分は、主人公である十六歳の少年ホールデンが頻繁に駆使する卑語及びホールデン特有の語彙と言葉づかい、そして自分の考えを長く敍述する主人公の内的告白による言葉のニュアンスを、どうすれば正確に伝達できるかという翻訳の正確性とニュアンスの伝達の適切性及び到着言語表現の適合性にある。 本稿では、韓国語翻訳本三種類と、日本語翻訳本二種類を考察対象として選択し、忠実性と可讀性の観点から比較した結果、次のことがわかった。 ①可讀性はあるが、相対的に忠実ではないもの、②忠実性はあるが、可讀性が不十分であるもの、③韓国語自体は問題がないが、原文と対照すれば、原文にはない創作をしたもの、④原文の内容を初めから省いたもの、⑤翻訳者が任意に翻訳を添加したもの、⑥単語や文章などを一つ一つ細心に翻訳するより、大まかに意訳する不正確な翻訳の間違いを犯したものなどが見られ、その他、⑦原文の文章を翻訳者が恣意的に分けて翻訳したもの、また、⑧統合して翻訳したものもあった。 翻訳に王道はない。翻訳は誰でもできる。しかし、誰もが、完璧な翻訳をするというのは不可能であろう。しかし、本稿で考察したように、少なくとも原文の内容と形式に対する忠実性と翻訳文の可讀性を同時に満足させる翻訳がより良い翻訳であるという事実だけは明らかであると思われる。
