A study on the Problem of the Historical Terms and Description in the History-Textbooks of High School: Focusing on Gangwha Treaty

ABSTRACT

The goal of this paper is to review the description about Ganghwa Treaty in eight current Korean history textbooks of high school based on four criteria: an inconsistent terminology, the term(fact) evaluation, the lack of commentaryUntil now, we have examined the distortion of Japanese history textbook or we have been interested in the left and right of Korean history textbooks. But back to the basics of teaching Korean history textbooks, we have to acknowledge that many of the errors in the Korean history textbooks are also needed to be corrected. History term is the form of recognition and representation with the public agree. In the case of Ganghwa Treaty, there are the term mismatch between eight textbooks, the problem of evaluation, the lack of commentary and the factual incorrectness. As you have seen, when we say the historical evaluation about the Ganghwa Treaty in the textbooks, we have to reveal the definition of 'Modern' and 'inequality' in the historical context.
