ABSTRACT

This study was to investigate the heterogeneous bride and its characteristics, focused on <snake bride>, <fox bride> and <crane bride> as narrative structure to flourish the descendants or create wealth after the marriage with the human male by the animal as heterogeneity which has turned into female. For the characteristics of heterogeneous marriage stories about bride, it may be summed up as follows. First, the world of mortals has faced the changes to create the descendants' prosperity and wealth through the gratitude of heterogeneous bride, and this study was to analyze it by using the principle of equivalent change. Besides, there arose radical change spreading to the world of mortals. Second, the 'increase in descendant and wealth' derived by the marriage for the male in the world of mortals and the female in the heterogeneous world can be seen as result reflecting the meaning of male-centered marriage in the traditional society. Third, the heterogeneous marriage stories about bride can be seen as combination between the experience by the ancient people who have repeated the contact with the 'heterogeneous world' and the mythical elements like 'birth of hero' through 'taboo' motif.
