ABSTRACT

Objectives This study aimed to report the significant improvement of a patient with acute and subacute-stage COVID-19 symptoms who was treated with remdesivir and herbal medicine based on Sasang constitutional medicine. Methods The patient was diagnosed and treated according to the principles of Sasang constitutional medicine. Handayeolsotang-gagambang and Sanyakbopaewon-tang gamibang were administered twice daily for 25 days. Among the evaluation indicators, subjective symptoms were assessed daily, and blood tests were conducted one to three times per week. Also standardized questionnaires were administered during both the initial symptomatic and remission phases. Results After 25 days of treatment with Handayeolso-tang-gagambang and Sanyakbopaewon-tang gamibang, the patient showed improvement in sore throat, anorexia, fatigue, and PHQ-9 score. Conclusions This case suggests the potential safety and efficacy of herbal medicine based on Sasang constitutional medicine for patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis who experience acute and subacute COVID-19 symptoms.
