AB - Objectives This paper was conducted to analyze the research trend of pulse in the field of Sasang constitution to lay the foundation for how to study and utilize pulse in the field of diagnosis of Sasang constitution, disease, and health level in the future.
Methods Papers published until June 2024 were searched using five domestic databases, searched for 'constitution AND pulse' in Korean, and foreign papers were searched for 'constitution AND pulse' and 'Sasang AND pulse' on Pubmed and analyzed.
Results Of the 74 papers, 18 were selected as eligible papers, and 14 were papers using a pulse diagnosis device. 9 papers studied the pulse wave characteristics of each person to diagnose the constitution through pulse diagnosis, 5 papers of pulse diagnosis were performed to evaluate disease or health level, and 2 papers mentioned constitution and disease/health level at the same time.
Conclusion Pulse diagnosis research related to Sasang constitutional medicine was mainly conducted to analyze the waveform of the pulse at the 3 areas and reveal the correlation with the constitution, and to identify the pulse characteristics of each constitution in various diseases including high blood pressure. However, since 2010, the number of pulse diagnosis studies for constitution diagnosis has decreased, it is expected that the development of a pulse diagnosis device with improved function based on the results of previous research will lead to the development of a pulse diagnosis device that determines disease status and health level as well as constitution diagnosis.
