AB - Due to market opening and increasing international marriage, Korean society is gradually entering a multicultural society. The Ministry of Education. We announced the advancement plan, strengthened education for multicultural students, and carried out multicultural understanding education for all students. The purpose of this study is to grasp the reality of multicultural understanding education centering on elementary school and to present future directions. For this purpose, we examined how multicultural understanding education teachers are carrying out multicultural understanding education at the school site and examined whether their teaching goals and educational contents convey multicultural values in light of the conceptual model of multicultural education curriculum. The research method involved five instructors of multicultural understanding education as research participants, and conducted pre - interviews, class materials review, class observation and post - interviews after class observation. All the researchers introduced elementary school children 's culture of their native countries, and class focused on the culture of customs such as traditional costumes and food. Multicultural Understanding Education needs to consider diversity in terms of target students and culture. It is rather difficult to cultivate empathy and social ability in the global situation by one-time class of first-time students. In addition, It is necessary to make efforts to develop it.
