AB - 본 기고문은 최근 자산운용업의 가장 큰 화두인 다이렉트 인덱싱에 대하여 이야기한다. 다이렉트 인덱싱이란 기존의 인덱스를 토대로 개인의 선호를 반영한 맞춤 포트폴리오를 구성하고, 이를 운용상품이 아닌 고객들의 계좌 내에서 개별 주식 단위로 직접 운용되게 하는 기술이다. 이는 기존의 펀드나 ETF가 가지고 있던 각종 제약사항 및 단점을 보완하며, 훨씬 저렴한 비용으로 최적화된 포트폴리오 운용을 가능하게 한다. 다이렉트 인덱싱을 통해 모든 투자자는 각기 다른 포트폴리오를 가질 수 있으며 팩터에 대한 노출, 위험 통제, 개인의 선호 반영, 절세 효과 기술 등을 활용할 수 있다. 로보어드바이저와 핀테크 업체에서 출발한 다이렉트 인덱싱 서비스는 점차 생태계가 발전하고 있으며, 최근 초대형 운용사들의 인수전쟁으로 인해 더욱 주목을 받으며 운용업의 최신 트렌드로 자리잡고 있다. 각 회사들의 여러 서비스들이 준비 기간을 지나 본격적으로 출시되기 시작한 만큼 다이렉트 인덱싱은 기존 운용업을 위협할 만큼 급성장할 것으로 기대된다.
