ABSTRACT

This study reinterprets Colombia's participation in the Korean War from an Evidence-Based History perspective, utilizing the collection and analysis of archival records. Unlike previous studies, which have primarily focused on military and diplomatic history, this research examines records produced by government agencies, newspapers, veterans' organizations, and individual participants between June 1950 and July 1953. By analyzing their production contexts and discursive characteristics, the study reconstructs the Korean War as a historical process intrinsically linked to Colombia's deployment experience. The findings indicate that anti-communism served as a key ideological framework during the deployment review and policy decision-making stages, thereby reinforcing state legitimacy and political order. During military operations, official records and media reports emphasized military achievements and mission performance. In contrast, personal records highlighted lived experiences such as fear, survival, exhaustion, and comradeship. Following the war, veterans' policies, commemorative practices, and veterans' organizations collectively transformed wartime experiences into national memory. The study argues that Colombia's participation in the Korean War should be understood not merely as a military and diplomatic event, but also as a complex process of discourse formation and memory construction.
