AB - Rock mass classification(RMC) is usually carried out to decide the support pattern based on the rock classification when the ground condition at field is different from the predicted data at the design stage. An insufficient RMC can result cause a tunnel collapse and many problems. In this study, the problems of the conventional RMC were analyzed on the basis of the expert survey, and improvements were suggested. The main problems of the conventional RMC were the lack of experts and insufficient cost. To improve the RMC’s problems, institutionalization of the RMC process and implementation of the RMC cost were proposed.
