ABSTRACT

The purpose of this research is to suggest some alternatives for reinforcing the local government’s role in the field of crisisonomy and disastronomy. This paper examines the significance and importance of local government in managing disasters and reviews the literature related to the local government’s disaster management. Suggestions from this research include; ① strengthening citizen participation and support system in the private sector, ② establishing the field response organizations in local government ③ collaborating with fire fighting services, police, public utilities, and so on ④ constructing the cooperative disaster management council including related organizations ⑤ securing sufficient human resources for managing disasters ⑥ establishing the special reserve disaster preparedness organization for efficient disaster management ⑦ building capacity of the local government’s disaster management.
