ABSTRACT

This paper aims to clarify the process and problem of the ‘life politics’ in Japan. After the World War Ⅱ, Japanese conservatism to life enabled a long regency of Liberal-Democratic Party. However, the life politics appeared around the residents’ movement and the progressive local government in the 1960's. "Peace for Vietnam!’ movement was different from party politics or ideal movements and showed universality of the life politics. Moreover, after 1980’s,"Seikatsusya politics" which was a style of citizen’s participation to the local assembly faced the heyday in 1990's, but it has stagnated in 2000’s. On the other hand, the theory to the life politics includes ‘lively politics’ and 'Seikatsusya democracy' in the 1980's, ‘Seikatsusya politics’ in the 1990's and ‘life politics' over the life security system in the 2000's. Recent success of Democratic Party means joint between life politics and party politics, but the capacity in solving the life problem of the Democratic Party is opaque.
