ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes President Moon Jae-in's communication leadership. Criteria for leadership analysis include communication skills, qualities, work performance, and political power, among which communication skills are judged to play an important role in the exercise of leadership of the Korean president. I empirically analyzed how President Moon's leadership changed during his inauguration, assuming that leadership changed in relation to goal achievement or collective situation because it is a "process" rather than a fixed one. Experience analysis followed eight criteria proposed by Kurt Lewin and others to distinguish types of communication leadership. According to the analysis results, Moon's leadership was aimed at democratic leadership at the time of inauguration, but negative laissez-faire leadership (non-leadership) was the dominant type during his term of office, and authoritative leadership was the auxiliary type.
